“I study in a building named after Sir Alexander Fleming who discovered penicillin. This inspires me to innovate and create things that would have an impact on the life and health quality of my community.”

Meet Nael…

Nael was born and raised in Gaza, Palestine and cites his mother as his role model and main source of inspiration.

He graduated from Faculty of Medicine - Mansoura University in 2016 and in the following two years, trained more than 300 university graduates from Gaza to improve their employability and help them access freelance work as a solution to the soaring unemployment rates. Nael also worked with many local and international organisations during this time.

Nael studied MSc Health Data Analytics and Machine Learning at Imperial College London. He chose this program in order to build his skills to create meaningful and actionable insights from medical and health data - something extremely needed in Palestine and the Middle East. Nael also hopes that his studies will help build robust digital health solutions that can positively impact the life quality of his society.

In his free time, Nael enjoys reading about digital health, business, data science and technology. He loves swimming, walking, exploring new places and new food. Nael is very happy studying in London and is excited by the opportunities to attend international events and connect with world-class leaders in digital health. Nael also likes to dedicate time to helping youth from Gaza access international business, education and professional opportunities as he believes this can make Gaza more connected and open to the world.

Nael chose Imperial due to it being one of the top 10 universities in the world and its reputation for quality education and research in science, technology and medicine which are the areas that he is most interested in.

Moving forward, Nael plans to contribute to the digital health transformation in the Middle East by building digital products and solutions that can improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare in Palestine as well as the Middle East. Nael is also currently working to launch (Dr. Sila) which is an Arabic personal health assistant in the MENA region.
