The Amjad & Suha Bseisu Foundation was founded by Amjad and Suha Bseisu in 2005 with the desire to empower young people and support disadvantaged communities in the Levant and Malaysia.

AMJAD BSEISU - CO-FOUNDER

Amjad Bseisu co-founded the Bseisu Foundation back in 2005, alongside his wife, Suha. Having experienced life as first and second generation refugees, they wanted to contribute to the availability of equal opportunities for the disadvantaged with a focus on education and the empowerment of women, children and brilliant young adults.

Amjad is currently the Chief Executive at EnQuest, a role that he has held since 2010. Amjad has extensive knowledge of the energy industry with a background in Engineering.

He holds a BSc Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University, an Msc and D.ENG degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from Stanford University, and an Executive MBA from SMU. 

Amjad notably was chairman of Environmena Ltd, the first regional solar power engineering company in the MENA region from 2010 to 2018 and was selected by HM prime Minister as British Business Ambassador for Energy from 2013 to 2015. He has also been chairman of the independent energy community for the World Economic Forum since 2016.


CATHERINE STEPHENSON - PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Catherine joined the Bseisu Foundation as Scholarships Officer back in September 2019. Before officially joining the team, Catherine interned as our Communications Officer.

Catherine is half Palestinian and is passionate about roles that allow her to explore her roots further. Before joining the Foundation, Catherine also interned at the UK registered charity Alfanar, the first venture philanthropy organisation working exclusively in the Arab region. Alfanar supports and invests in ambitious social enterprises in order to help them become self-sufficient and reach financial sustainability.

Catherine completed a degree in BA Classical Studies at the University of Bristol, focusing on the Ancient and Classical World. You can contact Catherine at catherine@bseisufoundation.org


FELICITY GARVEY - PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Felicity joined the Bseisu Foundation in October 2022. Prior to arriving at the Foundation, Felicity was studying MPhil Development Studies at the University of Cambridge, with a focus on power, politics and peacebuilding.

Felicity has research and analysis experience across the Middle East. She has written for The Wilberforce Society regarding food insecurity in Afghanistan and Iraq and has volunteered with Amnesty International’s Digital Verification Corps to identify and verify human rights abuses and war crimes, including in Yemen. She also has interviewed several key figures, including human rights activists and politicians such as Ensaf Haidar, Sir Vince Cable and Ban-ki Moon.

She has substantial tutoring experience, particularly in politics and higher education access work, and now works at the Foundation to help support in-need students from the Levant and beyond to access world-class education. You can contact Felicity at felicity@bseisufoundation.org


MEEMO KHOJAH - EDUCATION OFFICER AT AL MUNTAHA TUTORING

Meemo joined the Bseisu Foundation in September 2021 as an Education Officer at the Foundation’s partner charity ‘Al Muntaha’ that provides disadvantaged children in the Arab world with free online tutoring. 

Prior to coming to the UK, Meemo was a University English language instructor in Saudi Arabia. She arrived in the UK in 2012 and gained her master’s and PhD degree in educational technology and language learning from the University of Central Lancashire. Meemo spent some time as an Academic Consultant and a volunteer at the Manchester Refugee Support Network before the pandemic hit. 

Meemo now resides in Manchester where she enjoys travelling, crafting, and helping postgraduate students enhance their academic writing skills. You can contact Meemo at meemo@muntaha.org
